Over the last thirty years or so we've experimented with many types of pre-formed nails. Some sound and perform much better than others. A few work really well. Some of the important things we consider are diversity of tone, overall sound (timbre), durability, and ease of application. The nails we carry are the best that we've tried. All have distinct characteristics that make them unique, and they all perform really well for the guitar.
This is a very durable, great sounding nail. Can be used with or without wrap. It has really good diversity of tone, and is very responsive. These nails work great for classical and flamenco guitarists. They're a bit more difficult to apply than our type 1-A pre-formed nail, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. The 18/32 and 19/32 size has a bit of a downward curve at the sides, which can be trimmed off for better fit if needed. You can use the "well" (the thin part of the nail at the base) for covering your natural nail, and then leave the rest as "free nail", or you can cut off all or part of the well before application. The largest 2 sizes of the type 1-B nail tend to run about 1 size wider than the type 1-A pre-formed nails. Has a natural appearance after application.
Because this is such a great sounding nail, it's worthwhile learning how to use it. Here's a short video on how to customize this nail.
All of our nails are customizable and fully adjustable.
The width we have listed of the nails we carry is approximate depending on the curve, taper, and flexibility of the nail. But it's a good indication of size. And we have lots of sizes to choose from. If our pre-formed nail is too wide, simply trim the side with some scissors to fit your natural nail plate, this only takes a couple of seconds. If your natural nail is a bit too wide for the pre-formed nail, make sure the short side is the right "pinky" side. Make sure the left border (thumb side) of your natural nail is in line with the left edge of the pre-formed nail.
Your goal is to get the Guitar Player Nail to fit the curve and contour of your natural nail as close as possible before application. Dry fit the nail to check before application.
If the curve in the pre-formed nail is a bit too much, you can flatten it out a bit to match the curve of your natural nail by holding it between your thumb and index finger, and gradually increasing pressure to flatten the curve. You can also increase the curve by using our manicure stick and rolling it back and forth.
